The Red Badge Committee provides new Members with an opportunity to meet and work with other new Members while learning about Club committees, the Endowment and Rotary International. All Members of the Rotary Club of San Jose are members of this committee during their first year.

Red Badge Expectations

The value of Rotary comes as a result of your participation.
The following Red Badge expectations are intended to educate and engage new Members.
You will receive a Blue Badge after you have been a Red Badge Member for one year
during which time it is expected that these commitments will have been fulfilled.

Getting Started

Attend a one-hour Orientation at the Gordon House.
Pay your initiation fee and dues prior to being introduced.
Be introduced to the Club Members at a Wednesday meeting by your Sponsor.
Your introduction needs to be scheduled with the Rotary office. You will provide a bio and photograph to be posted online and at the Summit Center.

Attend the monthly Red Badge committee meetings. 7:45 a.m. on the 4^th Tuesday of the month at the Gordon House – 9 per year. (No meeting in June, September or December.)

Attend at least three (3) Rotary meetings each month if possible.

Service Commitments

Set-up, serve and clean-up for two Rotary Barbecues in June and September (4 – 8PM)
Participate in a Red Badge Community Service Project.
Join at least one committee within your first 6 months.
Attend the Annual Gala (usually in March) and/or contribute to the Red Badge silent auction item.

Connect with other Rotary Members

Participate in the greeting line with the other Red Badge Members (3-4 times a year).
Be in charge of the traveling microphones at a meeting (2-3 times during your first year).
Attend one Fireside (mid-May) or other Rotary social activity with your significant other.
Bring a guest to a Club meeting.
Attend a Rotary District 5170 event or a Rotary meeting at a different Rotary Club.

First Year Requirement

Complete the online Youth Protection Awareness Training before getting your Blue Badge.
