Zooming Reading Rockets Lift-Off

For years, SSI Rotary’s Reading Rockets program has deployed volunteer readers to read on a weekly basis to Pre-K and Kindergarten children in their classrooms.  Since the pandemic struck in March 2020, the volunteers have been sidelined until this spring.  To make sure that the program could continue, Zooming Reading Rockets lifted off on March 1st, and volunteers are now reading to kids by way of Zoom.  This pilot program will end on April 29th, but Zooming Reading Rockets will continue to be a part of the program to ensure that more volunteer readers can connect with more kids in their classrooms.

Volunteers have lots of fun reading to the kids, and sometimes wear special props for the occasion.  For instance, when reading The Gruffalo’s Child to her class of Pre-K kids at Burroughs-Molette Elementary School, Zena Martin donned her Gruffalo hat to make the story more exciting for the kids.
